The Reserve Bank of India, vide press release no.2025-2026/1015, announced the withdrawal of ₹2000 banknotes on 19th May 2023. The total value of ₹2000 banknotes in circulation declined to ₹5,956 crore by 31st August 2025. The banknotes remain legal tender. Please refer the press release for more details.
